My Smart Hands (Baby Sign Language) was developed so that we may teach pre-verbal babies to communicate long before they can speak; therefore reducing frustration because they can tell you what they want when they want it. This also allows for additional bonding time, boosts their self-esteem and supports educational and social development benefits. This too is true when working with other nonverbal persons. In addition, communicating using ASL signs can also greatly reduce behaviors such as self-harming stemming from the frustration of lack of communication.
After a personal experience that initially left me unable to speak, I immediately felt the anger and frustration that came with the inability to verbally communicate. Soon after my return to business, I made the decision to expand our services to help others with speech and/or other communication barriers.
From there ASL Breaking Barriers was started where we provide services to those with Communication Barriers such as Asperger’s, Autism, Apraxia, Down Syndrome, as well as Daycares, Homeschooling, Educational Assistants (EA), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), General Workplace Workshops and Senior Care.
We are available to support you in creating an accessible workplace and/or to assist your family in your communication connection.
