What is your “WHY” behind your business/being an entrepreneur?
As a child growing up I was a nobody. I was a girl that thought I would make nothing of my life. I knew when I looked good, I felt good. Little did I know that when I started my business with Stella & Dot it would take me as a person to a whole new level, just because I liked sparkly things and they made me look at myself and smile. I know now that I am not a nobody; I am a woman that loves her job, her family and now most importantly herself. Stella & Dot has given me more than I had ever hoped for. It has given me the ability to stand tall and look at myself in the mirror — and smile back!
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
I love the ability to work from home so I can be there for my kids. My whole life I always wanted to be a mom, and this way when my kids need me I am there for them.
What’s the best part about owning your own business?
The best part is I oversee my success! So when I want something, I just have to go for it and get it! Also, the ability to be around for my family.
Can you describe a typical day?
Craziness…. LOL! I have a teenager and a toddler so sometimes my day does not end until midnight even though it may have started at 4:00am. Stella & Dot is always on my mind. Whether dealing with a crisis of the moment or relaxing with my family, my working brain just does not turn off.
Who do you count on for help?
I have loved the support and training I get from the Mompreneur community and fellow members. I have never met a more amazing bunch of people who happen to be women just wanting the success of others and cheering each other on!
Have you ever had to sacrifice something at home for work? Or vice versa?
Yes. There are days when I would love to just cuddle up on the couch with my toddler, but work is calling my name. As mompreneurs I believe we all at some time struggle with “Mommy Guilt”. But I realize that this is what makes me truly happy; for my kids to see me doing something that I love is worth it in the long run.
What do you do on a day off? Do you even know what a day off is?
No! On our vacation to Jamaica the one thing that I requested was to have internet access. I was not hosting any jewellery parties but I was just as engaged with Facebook as if I were at home. I do believe we as a family are trying to implement electronic free hours, to turn off our phones and tablets and get back to communication.
What does the future look like for you and your business?
FABULOUS! I see myself growing my team and helping other women transforming their lives with the help of Stella & Dot.
Any tips for women thinking of starting a business?
Don’t wait, start it now! You will not regret it. It is hard at first but then you look at yourself in the mirror and see a completely different person: a confident, brilliant amazing business person, which makes you a confident, brilliant, and amazing mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend.
