What inspired you to become an entrepeneur?
Desire for independence is a big factor. Before I became an entrepreneur, I had my dream job working at a private school. When I decided to leave and open my own business, it was not because I did not love my job. On the beach in Croatia, this idea to start a business came through and I knew I needed to act right there and then. When something so strong comes to my mind, that’s it. This is how I try to live my life. My love for travelling combined with my desire to help and interact with people led me to open my travel agency business. I know this is what I am meant to do and I am so happy I made the leap and became an entrepreneur.

What is the best part about owning your own business?
Loving what I do every day, the flexibility to make my own hours, and meeting new clients and fulfilling their dreams is awesome.

Can you describe a typical day?
I always laugh and say when I had a full time job I was up at 6:00am. Now that I work from home I am up at 4:45 am. Mornings are my favorite time of the day and I can get a lot done before my husband and children wake up.

Every morning for the last 16 years, I have woken up before my husband, filled his lunch cooler, made his coffee and breakfast to go, and kissed him goodbye. This makes me so happy to do because we start the day connected with love. Then it is my time to catch up on the news and plan my day. After getting my kids up and out the door for school, I try to go to the gym or yoga class before officially beginning my work day. This is so important to do. Then, it is a day full of phone calls, emails, booking trips, meeting with clients and networking.

A wonderful thing about owning my business is  that I can do it remotely. This summer I was in Bosnia for two months and continued to work for my clients. This allows me to travel myself and check out destinations that I can recommend from my personal experience.

Who do you count on for help? Do you have a network of family that answer the call?
I always count on my husband who is my rock when it comes to everything in life. If it was not for him and his support I would not be here today. Some nights you have to be on the phone at 9:00pm and on two computers because your client is ready to book that last cabin on that Disney Cruise right then. He understands. When it’s the kids’ bed time, we try to drop everything we are doing and help them settle into bed, then we can continue all night if we need to work on something. But, if I give him that “it needs to be done now” look while I am on a call, he will take care of things.

Have you ever had to sacrifice something at home for work? Or vice versa?
I think in the previous question I can say that I sacrificed putting the kids to bed on time if I have a call. But, that is not every night. I can also say if I have an extremely busy day we will order food or go out and eat. Everyone prefers home made meals and eating at home. Sometimes, there is no choice.

What do you do on a day off? Do you even know what a day off is?
You can’t have a day off when you are in this business. Regardless of that, I have to admit that I still have the best social life because this business does give me a lot of flexibility in my day, which is important for so many things.

Are you active in your community? What does supporting local mean to you?
I am extremely active in both my Milton commmunity and my Bosnian community and I believe that it is what keeps me going. I love to support my fellow local entrepreneurs as I know how I feel when I get support. I feel blessed that so many others feel the same way and want to deal with a travel agent that is here in Milton. I also have support from my Bosnian community as their local travel agent. I love supporting all local charities and fundraising events as well; I am all about supporting other local businesses in both of my communities.

Name another entrepreneur who inspires you.
I have many entrepreneurs who inspire me, but Amy Flowers is one of the first entrepreneurs I met here and I have watched her create an amazing and very successful business over the years. She is the one who I always go to with my ideas, and I value her opinion.

What does the future look like for you and your business?
This is just the beginning! I had a great start in my business and did not focus on things to promote it. I have big plans and dreams and I will work hard to realize them. My plan is to hire someone in the near future to help me out with administrative part of my job so that I can focus on my clients. I dream to find the perfect affiliate/business partner. I look forward to growing my business and helping someone else achieve their goals by working in this amazing business too. I will continue to teach people through my work and example on importance of booking and using a trusted travel agent for all their travelling needs.

Any tips for moms thinking of starting a business?
If you are a mom and thinking of starting your own business, whether it is an MLM or something bigger, and  you can visualize the success and happiness this will bring you, then go for it. Don’t be afraid (you probably heard this one so many times) but it is so true. When I told a few people about my idea, some of the people closest to me thought it was a bad idea to open a travel agency because there is too much competition and people can now do their own online bookings. I have heard it all. BUT, I am different. I am Medina. I will be the best travel agent for my clients and I will prove that people will want to do business and need to do business with me. I have learned in life to value people’s opinions. In the end, when my own opinion has been strong and promising, I have never regretted following it.
