What is your “WHY” behind your business/being an entrepreneur?
I love being of service and I love watching others succeed. I love being part of the ripple effect: if I can help one person, I know that that person will go on to help others and so on. By doing this work, I’m making the world a better place. I also want to show my kids that they can achieve whatever they set out to do, even if it’s outside the box. I want them to know that following their passions and living a soul-aligned life is non-negotiable.
I’m an intuitive. I use my connection to the Universe to give added guidance and clarity and I help you tune into your own intuition so that you know that you’re on the right path for you, not anyone else. I also use energy healing to help release limiting beliefs and behaviour patterns, balance your emotions, and relieve stress while you’re making these big changes and scary steps forward. I’m a joy creator. Joy is the foundation to everything good and it’s the best way to transition through life with grace and ease. Joy is a key component to welcoming in success and abundance so I make it part of all of my work.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
I started my business as an energy healer. Basically, the only way to do that work is to start your own business. You just can’t work for someone else. When I was younger, it had never crossed my mind to be an entrepreneur. It was so outside of what I knew that I didn’t even know it was an option! But the Universe had other plans and gave me gifts to share with the world. I eventually realized those gifts were meant to serve and help others so I’ve been trying to figure out this entrepreneur thing ever since.
What’s the best part about owning your own business?
The flexibility! I love having the freedom in my schedule to be there for my kids, take care of myself, or simply work when I want to. I’m a night owl so I love having the choice to not see clients in the morning or work on my business in the evening.
What impact did other people/experiences have on you, and how did they help you get to where you are in your business today?
When I first started my business, I rented space in an office that was shared with 2 other holistic practitioners. I quickly became friends with one of them and we have remained close for the past 7 years. It’s been wonderful to have a good friend who aligns with me and my work and who is also an entrepreneur. Having her support has been crucial through all the ups and downs of entrepreneurship (and life!) and watching her grow her own practice over the years has been inspiring. Mompreneurs has also been great for meeting other like-minded entrepreneurs. I’ve made some great friends and colleagues!
What values do you believe in and live by, and how do they shine through when it comes to your role as a business owner?
I believe in service. I am here to be of service and do what I can to make the world a better place, by making your world a better place. I am always eager to help and I strive to make every interaction with others a positive one. I also believe that honesty, integrity, authenticity, and respect are paramount, at home and at work. I believe in humanity and do my best to always live without judgement.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your business/being an entrepreneur?
My resilience and perseverance. I know that most people in my position would have given up a long time ago. Building a business has been slow and I’ve thought many times about stopping. However, I know that this is what I’m meant to do so I keep going, even when it feels like an impossible dream. I rest, but I don’t quit.
What does the future look like for you and your business?
My future looks amazing! I see me helping and being a role model to thousands of women. I see books that I’ve written, and retreats that I lead, and speaking gigs all over the world.
Any tips for women thinking of starting a business?
1. Be prepared for a wild ride! There will be lots of ups and downs so make sure you have a good support network: family, friends, coaches … you’ll need them all!
2. Be patient. Building a business takes time. “Overnight success” happens to people who have worked hard out of the spotlight for years.
3. Make sure that your business is aligned with your soul. Do what you love to do or create something that fulfills a personal need or you won’t have the drive to keep going.
Remember that you’re never alone. There are people and resources to help you along every step of the way (but you may need to ask) – Mompreneurs is a great place to find them!
