I remember being 10 years old and writing my first novel on a blue kid-sized typewriter. As the years and technology evolved, I started a blog in 2008 to continue my love of writing. The next natural progression was to write on social media platforms. When I write content that people connect and respond to, that absolutely makes me jump out of bed in the morning. When my current opportunity came up the timing was right so I actively pursued and haven’t looked back yet.
I joined Gem Webb as director of social marketing and brand communications because I am passionate about storytelling and I really liked the way the business was serving their clients. I knew I just had to be a part of it. My role allows me the opportunity to meet amazing entrepreneurs and help them share their business and what is happening within it to the masses. Connecting people is also something I like to do, so through campaigns and targeted marketing ads I get to introduce people to the brands that mean something to them and can make a difference in their lives.
Although I am associated with Gem Webb, I have a big say in who we work with and I am currently re-developing the department and building my team. I like having a voice and using my prior business experience to make a change both for the company and our clients. So far we have had clients who are just as excited to work with us as we are to create for them. That is what makes me jump out of bed each morning, ready to start the day.
My professional life has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. I began as a fundraising consultant responsible for multi-million dollar capital campaigns. When my children came along, I changed course and opened a home daycare. When I was ready to once again change course, having Gem mentor me and my husband’s complete support propelled me forward. These men were instrumental in helping me realize that I was ready to change the course of my business life. Now I’m able to embark on my new professional journey full-time as a result. Having others believe in you, boost you, and push you out of your comfort zone is one of the biggest gifts I could ever have received.
I value family, creativity, and lifelong learning. These shine through in my business role because, as a home-based mompreneur, I can be around for my family when they need me but also exercise my brain by learning social media technology and techniques, while creating new ways to uniquely represent business brands and their personality.
For me, the future looks incredible. It’s filled with lots of time for my family while giving me a refreshed and renewed creative outlet doing what I love to do. I literally see myself living my dream.
Before I started my business, I did a lot of soul-searching and planning. I also had a savings plan so that there was a safety net it if took longer to get off the ground than I anticipated. I believe that having thought out as many angles as I could, I felt mentally prepared to go forward with confidence.
