What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Growing up I think I have always been an entrepreneur. Lemonade stands, babysitting and picking raspberries to sell on the cash counter at my grandparents variety store are just a few “business” ventures I dabbled in as a young entrepreneur. My adult inspiration was 30 years ago when I had to return to my corporate job after only 16 weeks maternity (this was the maternity rule back then). I did it for a couple of months then quit and ran my own daycare business. I went from “business suits to sweatpants” in two days. I finished my day job Friday and on Monday I had a crew of babies, toddlers and school lunchtime kids in my new daycare business! After 6 years, I returned to the corporate world which I continued in for the next 16 years. I decided I no longer wanted that lifestyle and I longed to be my own boss again. I took an “early retirement” to run my relationship marketing business full-time.

What’s the best part about owning your own business?
Freedom of Choices.  Helping Others.  You work hard, but get to play hard too!

Can you describe a typical day?
I wake up at 7:00-8:00am, take my Allysian Mastermind to start my day off, and then drink coffee while checking social media. I drink my Allysian Genesis Power drink while following up with team coaching calls, then head out for a networking breakfast or lunch, put in a couple hours of office work for our family business, some gardening and cooking. Wednesdays I golf in a fun ladies league; I go for a daily swim in my pool during the summer, and go snowmobiling in the winter. I usually go to bed around 11:00pm after a 15 minute spa. I read a motivating or coaching book before falling asleep. I’ve read 11 books so far this year.

Who do you count on for help? Do you have a network of family that answer the call?
I have phenomenal business leaders and mentors, many who have since become my close friends.  My daughter and my son are my lifeline!  Their support through the years as a single mom, business woman and entrepreneur has been invaluable!

Have you ever had to sacrifice something at home for work? Or vice versa?
Always!  Isn’t that the norm? However, it feels very different when the sacrifice is “your choice” for the “greater good”.
What do you do on a day off? Do you even know what a day off is?
I golf, swim, snowmobile, and shop. I enjoy cooking and entertaining family and friends on my day off. The joy of giving and seeing delight on someone else’s face makes me smile.
Are you active in your community? What does supporting local mean to you?
I donate and support charity events my friends and colleagues participate in. My passion is my Prostate Extreme Team (PET) Sled Ride of Hope Ride for Dads. I have participated in this fundraiser for prostate cancer for 9 years now. Supporting local means when I need something or want to shop for something I first reach out to my friends and acquaintances to see if they have what I am looking for before I buy elsewhere. I support small businesses locally and do my shopping there before the big box stores.

Name another entrepreneur who inspires you.
Tessa Kampen inspires me!  She is the reason I joined Mompreneurs®.  She is passionate about what she delivers in her presence, in her speeches and in her activities she arranges for us. Tessa’s professionalism is admired by many, yet she is down to earth and always available to help out when reached. What I most admire about Tessa is that she is a “doer” instead of a “preacher”. When Tessa recommends something to us, she has personally tried it out herself first, whether it be a product, service or a course. As a mom, wife, friend, leader and colleague, Tessa has often put a smile on my face when I think about her.
What does the future look like for you and your business?
The future for my business is limitless.  Helping others to have a better life; through sharing my brain health products and/or offering an incredible business opportunity.  In my business of relationship marketing, “when you help others succeed, you succeed”.
Any tips for moms thinking of starting a business?
Research the “People”, the “company mission”, and the validity of the service/products.  Decide to commit, decide to participate, decide to follow up and be the BEST YOU that you can be!
