Tell us about your business:
Capstone Real Estate Professionals is a Real Estate team that prides themselves in serving clients as trustworthy people who go above and beyond. It is all about the experience, so providing clients with an experience unique to their wants and needs and that goes above and beyond what they would expect is paramount. Buying a home is often the largest purchase of someone’s life, so the team at Capstone Real Estate Professionals wants to be there every step of the way for clients in order to help in ease of the process, with a focus on creating a good working culture to inspire people, motivate team members, and continue to work towards the company’s core values.
What is your “WHY” behind your business/being an entrepreneur?
My WHY of becoming an entrepreneur is to inspire others and to be able to give back to the community. I am a firm believer in giving back and the importance of community involvement. I studied Child, Youth, and Families at the University of Guelph and minored in Psychology. Through this degree, I found my passion of giving back to people. I wanted to help out and make a difference. I quickly realized that having control of my time and control of my funds would give me the freedom, ability, and platform to give back and make a difference in my community. Through my Real Estate team, I am now able to start initiatives, contribute to community events, volunteer, and sponsor projects. This keeps me busy and motivated and is definitely my WHY.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
I was inspired to become an entrepreneur when I realized my WHY. I wanted the freedom to give back and contribute to my community. In being an entrepreneur, there is no ceiling or limit to what I can do and I am so very intrigued by that. I believe that being an entrepreneur is extremely hard work, but pays off and it makes me excited to be an entrepreneur.
What’s the best part about owning your own business?
Having my own business is important to me because of time management, freedom, the ability to expand, and having no limitations. I love that I am able to choose my priorities and stick to my values.
What impact did other people/experiences have on you, and how did they help you get to where you are in your business today?
I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. During a time in my life when I was having a hard time finding “where I belong,” I quit my job and found myself with many possibilities but having to make a choice. I decided to go to Australia with my fiance. He had a business trip there for his Real Estate business and since I found myself with no job, I thought “why not?” After spending time with some of the top Realtors in Canada, I ultimately took their advice, and signed up for my Real Estate courses in order to obtain my license. I have now joined my fiance’s team and am so thankful for the people I met on my trip to Australia, the advice they gave me, and the direction my life turned.
What values do you believe in and live by, and how do they shine through when it comes to your role as a business owner?
I believe in love. A sermon I listened to in high school about “agape” love has really stuck with me as my main value throughout my life, both personally and in my business. He speaks about love and states that English is the only language that only has one word for love, however there are many types of love. You love your mother different than you love your husband, different than you love your children etc. Agape love is unconditional love. This sermon said that if everyone in the world showed unconditional love to one person that they may not show love to otherwise, imagine how the world would change. I strive to live by this lesson every day. Each day, I try to show love to one person that I wouldn’t normally show love to and I believe that this is so important. Whether its buying the Tim Horton’s order for the person in the drive through line behind me or its having a conversation with someone I don’t know, I believe that this opens our hearts and makes us better people. This is the value that I live by every day.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your business/being an entrepreneur?
I am most proud when hard work pays off. When a deal closes, a volunteer opportunity happens, or when our team reaches their goals, I am proud.
What does the future look like for you and your business?
The future looks like growth. We are a fast growing team and this is exciting! We are building not only team members, but the culture within our team in order to motivate our agents as well as serve our clients!
Any tips for women thinking of starting a business?
Do it! Go with your gut! I never imagined that I would be where I am today, but I am so thankful for the opportunities that arose and that I took the risk.
