What is your “WHY” behind your business/being an entrepreneur?
I believe in creating your own destiny and designing your life and I think that the best way for women to do that is to own a successful business. A successful business allows us to balance family life and the pursuit of our dreams in a way that makes sense to us, not our boss. So many of us don’t grow to the level of success that would really give us the freedom and security we crave because it feels scary to become bigger and more complicated. My job is to take away that fear by putting legal structures in place that protect you and your business so that you can bring on that investor, expand into that new market, build your team or monetize your intellectual property, safe in the knowledge that you are protected and prepared for the worst-case scenarios.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
My kids. When I realized how expensive they are, both in terms of money and emotional energy, it became clear that I could only be the type of mom I wanted if I was an entrepreneur! I want to leave a legacy for my children AND I want to be present during their childhood – running a business gives me the opportunity to do both.
What’s the best part about owning your own business?
Freedom. I get to work with who I want, when I want and how I want. I’m in control of how much I make ad I get to be my whole self at work.

Describe people and/or experiences that have been instrumental to you along your journey to entrepreneurship – what impact did they have on you, and how did they help you get to where you are in your business today?
I have been incredibly blessed to have great mentors along the way. So many Mompreneurs have helped me through encouraging words and always thinking of me when a legal question came up. In particular, Heba Ahmed Malki changed my business and my life with her advice on why expressing gratitude is super important. Arica Bryan is always challenging me to push past my comfort zone and “do it scared” and my wonderful coach Shelagh Cummins was instrumental in my business not just surviving but thriving during a year when I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
What values do you believe in and live by, and how do they shine through when it comes to your role as a business owner?
My three top values are: freedom, independence and security. “Security” may seem out of place but in my view, it’s impossible to be more secure than when you are the one in control of your life. Those values guide me in providing advice to clients and I believe they help me to empathize with other business owners who often crave the same things.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your business/being an entrepreneur?
I’m most proud of the impact my business has. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing my clients open new locations that they once thought of as dreams, extricate themselves from doomed partnerships so they could flourish on their own and double and triple their revenue due to structures I helped put into place. Every time I see another success story, I feel like a proud mama.

What does the future look like for you and your business?
“My future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades!” Am I dating myself with that song? My dream is for Henry Business Law to become the premier provider of legal services for women entrepreneurs in Canada. Specifically, I want all of us to have the advantages of an in-house counsel without the high cost and my team and I are working to make that a reality.
