What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
My family inspired me to become an entrepreneur. My dad always told me to go to school, get a good job and be independent when I was a little girl. Little did I know that would result in me being my own boss.

What’s the best part about owning your own business?
The best part of owning my own business is autonomy. The freedom to make decisions and implement new ideas.

Can you describe a typical day?
In the morning I am typically at home with my daughter. Besides playing with her, the morning and afternoon is centered round planning for the day, taking care of e-mails and my do list (both personal and business). Once I arrive at work, it is usually catching up quickly on any events or “to-do’s” then I start treating clients. Once I arrive home from work, it is family dinner time, jiu jitsu training, followed by reading or researching and finally finishing the day with mindfulness meditation.

Who do you count on for help?
I have a great network of family. My step-brother helps run my clinic when I am not at work, he is also my videographer, my tech support and anything else I need. My parents are my babysitters currently. My dad also takes care of lots of business tasks between his clinic and my clinic.

Have you ever sacrificed something at work for home? Or vice versa?
Yes, being a new mom I had to go back to work part-time at 5 weeks because as a business owner I am not entitled to maternity leave and the business was only 1 and half years open. I didn’t sacrifice per say, but I did have to find a balance between work and being home with baby. Thankfully I have a lot of family support that made it possible.Mompreneur Madelaine Golec

What do you do on a day off?
On my days off, I am often reading a book, researching for my next blog or making youtube videos for my business in the winter months. In the spring and summer I travel with my family to Sherkston shores where we drive around in golf cart along the beach of Lake Erie.

Are you active in your community? What does supporting local mean to you?
I am active in supporting various events in the community throughout the year. Supporting local to me means: buying goods locally, networking with other local business and supporting each other through social media and other forms of marketing.

Name another entrepreneur that inspires you.

What does the future look like for you and your business?
The future for me: that I will be a well sought after women’s and men’s pelvic health physiotherapist, a speaker at events amongst my peers, will be conducting webinars, my youtube channel/blog will become very popular and will become an additional source of income and I hope to publish a book in the future.

The future of my business: I hope one day to have a full medical center dedicated to pelvic health and wellbeing.

Any tips for mom’s starting a business?
The most helping for thing for me right now is listening to marketing podcasts. It’s a great way to gain free information and start learning about marketing. Without effective marketing it is difficult to grow a business. Wish I had listened to them right at the start.
