What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Many years ago, when I branched out on my own to be a personal trainer, the most important thing to me was to be in charge of my own schedule and hours. I loved the independence of business ownership. I like doing things on my own terms, and choosing the people who I work with.
What’s the best part about owning your own business?
The best part about owning a business is the freedom and creativity. I have come to enjoy all the parts (maybe not the accounting and math parts), but I love the constant learning, and always striving to be better. I have also learned, fairly recently, to ask for help, which is a huge thing for me, as a solopreneur. I have a supportive team I work with now, inside and outside of the clinic I am a part of. I have learned that if I hate doing a certain part of my business, I will hire someone who is excellent at that part! What a great feeling! I also love to meet other business owners and helping them grow their businesses however I can.
Can you describe a typical day?
I wake up at 7:30 and drop my son off at school for 8:30. I then either hit the gym or go into my office to see clients. I see about 3 clients per day, 2 – 3 days per week. The other days I keep for admin, networking and meetings. I see clients until 3 or 4, sometimes I pick up my son from school. 2 evenings per week I see clients. At night I like to relax with my family, if I don’t have a networking event to go to. We go for hikes, watch movies or Netflix. I go to bed around 10pm.
Who do you count on for help?
I count on my husband in a huge way! He is my biggest support. I also have a business advisor, as well as a social media specialist who help me out. I am also a part of a health clinic, and we all help each other too. And of course my fellow Mompreneurs! Someone is always there to bounce ideas off of, and give support when needed!
Have you ever had to sacrifice something at home for work? Or vice versa?
Luckily, I am usually in complete control of my schedule. This summer I was in Nevada for 2.5 weeks to complete my Master NLP Practitioner certification. I missed my son’s 10th birthday, and that was tough. I knew that my training was super important, and in the long run it would help my family.
What do you do on a day off? Do you even know what a day off is?
On weekends I usually take at least one day off. I work out, hang out with my son or husband, and get all the things done that I let go during the week. I won’t say I clean, but I try to make my house look not super dirty!
What does the future look like for you and your business?
My goal is to help as many women as I can, and to get the word out that there IS a fast and very effective way to eliminate much of the pain women are feeling. The future is limitless!
Any tips for women thinking of starting a business?
Just do it! But make sure you have a support system behind you. Put money into yourself. Hire a business coach, and someone to do the things you aren’t great at. Get as much knowledge and training as you can. Don’t wait for things to be perfect – jump in!
What is your “WHY” behind your business/being an entrepreneur?
I struggled with my own body image/eating disorder myself, for many years. I discovered NLP, and it worked. I was encouraged by my coach to become certified, that it might help my personal training clients. The course blew my mind. Once I started working with clients in this capacity, I knew it was where I could do the most good. I love to see the changes in my clients- there is no feeling like knowing you had a part in helping someone completely change her life!
